   Steve Stout, Laurie Hosken and I got together at the Phoenix central library yesterday to talk about Yore Town content. I’m getting really excited about what we’re building out here, and how useful, entertaining and historical it’s going to be. We added one page to the original plan. We’re tentatively calling it “Famous Folks of Phoenix” and we’ll be talking about celebrities and colorful characters that live in the Phoenix metro area, or did so at one time. There are so many – Jordin Sparks, Rick Schroeder, Hugh Downs, Wayne Gretzky, Dan Quayle, the Goldwaters, Clive Cussler, Sandra Day O’Connor, Zane Grey, Erma Bombeck, Amanda Blake, Alice Cooper, Andy Devine, Debbie Reynolds, Barbara Eden, Danica Patrick, Joe Garagiola,  John McCain, G. Gordon Liddy – and many more. The entertaining video above is a clip of “That’s the Spirit” with a number of famous actors including Andy Devine,  Jack Oakey and Gene Lockhart (you’ll remember him as Santa Claus in the original Miracle on 34th Street with Maureen O’Hara and Natalie Woods.)

We’ll also be writing about the history of the cities and nearby towns, and gathering information on local businesses. We want to determine when these retail and service merchants, as well as other organizations, were first founded, to include them in our tour of the town by era.
